The International Cesarean Awareness Network, Inc. (ICAN), is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve maternal-child health by preventing unnecessary cesareans through education, providing support for cesarean recovery, and promoting Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC). ICAN was founded by Esther Booth Zorn in 1982.

ICAN of NYC was founded in 2005 . Along with our mission statement above, we seek to serve the needs of the women who come to us, including help with local birth and VBAC issues, providing a safe space to process our birth experiences, and promoting cesarean awareness through events and publicity.
We are currently restructuring the ICAN of
NYC to include chapters in each of the boroughs. If you are in Queens,
Manhattan, the Bronx, or Staten Island and would like to become involved, please
let us know."
